Joining a quilt-along

That's it, there's no going back… I have commented on Elizabeth's blog, that I would love to join her quilt-along for the Sparkle Punch Quilt. I thought about using my stash of mocha/mushroom//taupe/chocolates as our bedroom has one mocha painted wall and the others are a stone colour. I've been adding to this stash every trip to The Quilt Room in Dorking, which is one of my fav haunts.

I'll need to decide on a background (or negative) colour as I fancy making less stars and positioning them in more of an asymmetrical design as Elizabeth's quilt in progress pics show, but maybe I'll see how I get on with the stars once I start sewing them together. I really like the soft duck egg of this Oliver Bonas wrapping paper, so maybe I'll hunt down a plain in the same shade.

Baby Raff's Fish Quilt

Here's the finished quilt I made in the summer for baby Raff (born a whopping 10lb 8). I got the fishy centre in a fabric sale and knew that it would make a lovely panel for a baby quilt, so when I heard the news my friend was expecting, I got started.

I wanted to use a border fabric that echoed the embroidered air bubbles from the fish, having sewn a royal blue strip around the fish panel for stand out. I found this Moda design at The Quilt Room in Dorking. My Mam came up trumps and gave me the plain red for the binding from her own stash (that's another post as hers is V impressive!)

I used the same royal blue for backing (it's a Moda Bella solids), machine quilting with a wavy line to represent the waves in the sea. I was tempted to stop and jump over the appliqued fish, but in the end I decided to machine-stitch over them.

To finish off the quilt, I added a corner flash of this cute tape I found in Joy in the sale (it was only £2 a roll!). My friends loved the quilt. They had bought baby Raff a Scandi-style white cot, which made my finished quilt look very stylish - I wish I'd taken a pic of it draped over the side, but I was far too busy giving Raff cuddles!

Hello 2012 and hello blog!

New Year's Resolution number 1 (and I'm only making the one, that way I might be able to stick to it!)… stop being a quilting blog surfer and to become a blogger! Yes I've admired you all from afar, spent hours trawling your wonderful creative blogs, turning green with envy on a regular basis, but now's the time to jump in and give this blogging lark a go… so 'Hello' and welcome to my quilting world
